January 2012 – PTA Chairperson’s update
Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas break.
The autumn term (September – December) was a very busy term, not only for the school and the children but also for the PTA. Most of the meetings we held throughout the term were focussed around arrangements for the many events that took place. We are hoping to arrange a more formal meeting for early February. We will be in touch, once a date has been confirmed.
Further information about the PTA, including its members and the minutes of our meetings, can be found on the school’s website. In the meantime, I thought you may be interested to hear about some of the PTA (and school) successes of the autumn term:
Christmas card project 2011
As part of the Arts for Schools Projects, the children started designing their Christmas card at the start of term, in September! The viewing evenings of their designs took place on 20th and 21st September, at which we took orders for almost 1000 packs.
The children’s hard work and professional designs, along with your overwhelming support, raised over £100 for the PTA/school, with an additional donation of £50, from Arts for Schools Projects, for early participation. So, although we apologise for getting the children thinking about Christmas so early, we hope you understand that it was for a good cause!
Shopping evening – November 2011
After the positive feedback we received about last year’s shopping evening, we arrange another! We had a range of stalls including Simply Christmas, Chocoholics, homemade cupcakes, stocking fillers and many more. We all managed to get some lovely Christmas presents whilst enjoying a leisurely evening amongst old and new friends. We also raised over £100 for PTA funds.
Christmas fair – 8th December 2011
We were denied a Christmas fair in 2010 because of the snow! It was a close shave again this year when the heavens opened and the torrential rain fell, but thankfully you didn’t let the rain put you off! Your overwhelming support this year made over £700 for PTA funds – definitely worth all the hard work (and getting wet!).
A special thank you to Father Christmas, who also braved the elements to be with us on the day!
A night of music – 12th December 2011
Oh what a night! Our talented school choir was accompanied by the breathtaking voices of Bargoed Male Voice Choir and the remarkable sounds of Oakdale Silver Band. With a programme dedicated to Christmas, this was the perfect event to get us all in the mood for the festive period (despite the torrential rain!).
We held a raffle on the night, which raised over £120 for PTA funds. A special thank you to our teachers for donating the 1st prize – a huge luxurious Christmas hamper (a highly sought after prize!).
The night was enjoyed by both young and old and gave us all the opportunity to witness the amazing talents that we have in our community. We look forward to holding more events like this one in the future, watch this space…..
Breakfast with Santa – 16th December 2011
The school hall was transformed into a Christmas wonderland, with the tables set up Christmas dinner style! The children each received a cracker and they all enjoyed a breakfast of toast and fruit juice, followed by a special visit and present from Sion Corn. It was a hectic but magical morning!
With the success of our fundraising, and your continued support over the last year, the PTA was pleased to be able to fund this event this year. We hope to have the opportunity funds similar events in the future, for the children’s enjoyment.
A special thank you to International Greetings for their kind donation of Christmas crackers, for this event, and to Sion Corn for giving up his time so close to Christmas.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our local business for their kind donations – you never tire of us asking and we are always grateful for any donations, small and large!
A huge thank you to our amazing teachers and the wonderful staff at the school, who are always ready and willing to give up their time to help and support the PTA, in any events we arrange. We couldn’t do it without you.
Finally, we would like to thank you, the parents and families, for your continued support. Without it these events and successes would not be possible.
